Marylebone Station

London's Marylebone Terminal, the newest of major London terminals which was opened in 1899 by Great Central Railway (GCR) when its London extension was complete. It has always been a "quiet" terminal; the fact that it has never been electrified symbolises this.

After the closure of Great Central route in 1966, even the closure of Marylebone station was planned. However, now it is used as the terminal for Chiltern Line trains, which runs trains between Birmingham and London.

Marylebone station or London Marylebone station is located midway between the mainline stations at Euston and Paddington, about 1 mile (1.6 km) from each. It is in Travelcard Zone 1.

In its heyday Marylebone Station served the Midlands, Nottingham and Sheffield.   Following the rationalization of the railways in the 1960s Marylebone lost its long distance services and since then the station had lower importance and reduced in size. It has retained its important commuter services to north-west London, Oxford, Aylesbury and Birmingham Snow Hill.
