A little history The name of Austerlitz points out the battle gained by Napoleon in Austria on December 2, 1805 against the troops austro-Russian. With the origin, it was the station terminus for Companie of Orleans operating its first line since 1840. Successive extensions took place in 1846 and 1852.
The station, such as it appears today, was rebuilt by the architect Pierre-Louis Renaud (1865-1868). This station serves south-west of France, Spain and Portugal. Structure Austerlitz was never appreciated by the Parisian ones. The administrative building hides the ways and their roof of glass and steel of the XIXème century. Two allegorical statues, draped with the antique, dües with Elias Robert and representing Agriculture and Industry (that with an engine, well on), decorate the frontage. The arrival thereafter of the Subway caused the penetration of the station over the ways, before this one does not span the Seine further a few meters. The size of the interior (52 meters broad on 280 meters long) made possible the construction of the balloons postal used at the time of the head office of Paris of 1870. |
